EXHIBITION IN A BOX // CELEBRATING AGE

After the success of L-A City Through Its People exhibition (featuring The RED Archive), Open Eye Gallery was given some funding and we chose to create two portable versions of the exhibition for people at risk of isolation.

‘L— A City Through Its People brings together three distinct local projects, the combined archives cover a time period of Liverpool from the 1950s to the present day. Spanning evolutions in industry, society, and leisure at a time of rapid change and challenge, they share unique approaches and perspectives in telling a story about Liverpool, its people, and the ideals that lend the city charm and a distinct personality.’

With contributions from The Red ArchiveScottie Press and Tell It Like It Is, residents are encouraged to explore their own and shared histories through their photographs of loved ones, their memories and experiences through a series of prompts and activities.

The first box was created for Liverpool residents in residential homes, the memory boxes include images and audio, and are an invitation for conversation, and the box itself is a piece of art for the residential home to keep. The box is designed to be durable with large print and large photographs to be used again and again.

The second box was for Liverpool residents who are shielding or living alone. The pack was delivered by post, designed to fit through a letter box and included photographs, stories and activities from each archive. Beautifully designed and giving local residents an opportunity to enjoy and engage with the exhibition from the comfort of their own home.
